DLT was organized in 2016 for collective action by private and public sector organizations in support of the Government of Kenya’s “Digital Literacy Programme”also known as “Digischool.” DLT is registered in the United States and in Kenya.
Initial Scope of Activities
The first priority of DLT and the reason for its formation is to deliver government approved digital content for all students including special needs learners in Kenya’s Digischool,together with teacher training in the use of digital content, and monitoring and evaluation to measure impact. All activities will be performed in support of and in cooperation with Kenya’s Ministry of Education, Science & Technology, and Kenya’s Ministry of ICT.
Technology
DLT uses open source software and open standards for e-reading, ebook accessibility, and ebook security from Readium backed by Google, Adobe, New York Public Library, DAISY, Benetech, European Digital Reading Lab, Penguin Random House, and many other publishing stakeholders worldwide. Readium Foundation is an Open Source Foundation collaboratively developing technology to accelerate the adoption of EPUB 3 and the Open Web Platform by the Digital Publishing Industry.
