Dear Friends,

In January, we delivered over 2,055 ebooks for the Kenyan Curriculum to Dr. David Lewis Heritage Primary and Secondary Schools, in Kenya’s Kakamega County, and we trained the teachers on how to access and use the content in classroom lessons. The content was for the Kenyan curriculum from Kenyan publishers. These are examples of Kenyan private schools charting their own path to digital literacy. We are happy to learn with them and go far together.

With strong collaboration from publishers, we have brought digital content to over 1,500 schools across all 47 counties of Kenya and 13 African countries. eKitabu collaborates with leading publishers and content developers in Kenya and across Africa, focusing on books approved for use in schools by ministries of education.

Preparations for the 2020 ICT Innovation Teacher of the Year Award (iTOYA) are underway, and all teachers are welcomed to keep an eye on iTOYA.eKitabu.com for the 2020 details. iTOYA is a collaboration of Teachers Service Commission (TSC); The Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA); Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KeSSHA); and eKitabu to award innovative teachers for ICT integration in the classroom—in any and all subjects, not just ICT. Now in its fourth year, iTOYA has included over 4,500 teachers across all 47 counties of Kenya in a new approach to teacher professional development. We look forward to learning more down this path with stakeholders from public and private sector in 2020.
