eKitabu Tunaenda Digital Newsletter December 2019
Dear Friends,
In this holiday season, the entire eKitabu family wishes you and yours a peaceful end to this decade and a rejuvenating new beginning. In 2019 we learned more, lots more. We learned more about delivery and relationships and the foundations of a shared vision that spans public and private sector. We are grateful to everyone who worked with us and walked with us this year, and to the many in Africa and outside who have helped us deliver accessible digital content for inclusive and quality education. Asanteni sana!
A few highlights: this year we received 13,560 essays from students across every one of Kenya’s 47 counties. We collaborated with Rwanda Education Board, USAID and All Children Reading to advance Rwanda’s new Inclusive Education policy. We awarded the third annual ICT Innovation Teacher of the Year Award (iTOYA) for Secondary teachers in Kenya, and we launched iTOYA for Primary teachers. We awarded prizes to publishers in East Africa who developed over 70 quality, accessible, digital early grade reading materials for learners with disabilities. And with Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development and UNICEF, we prototyped an accessible digital textbook for Kenya’s Competency Based Curriculum.
As the rains quiet down and the sun comes out, I hope you get to enjoy time with your family and friends over the holidays, and look forward to seeing you in 2020.
Warmest regards,
Will
