The 3rd National Curriculum Conference was held at the Kenya International Conference Centre (KICC) on Friday 16th, 2019

Organized by Kenya’s Ministry of Education, the conference sought to share insights on the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) which has already been implemented in the early learning grades in Kenya. The conference brought together students, teachers, Cabinet Secretaries, government agencies, corporates, partners, and stakeholders in the education ecosystem

President Uhuru Kenyatta was the Chief Guest at the colorful and informative event

Before the conference, the Ministry of Education in collaboration with various other ministries had organized pre-conferences to discuss various issues affecting the education sector. Each Pre-Conference had a position statement on the outcomes and suggestions on the way forward on various issues of discussion. The statements were presented to the President during the 3rd National Curriculum Conference

One of such events was the Pre-conference on ICT integration in Education which was held on Wednesday 14th August 2019 at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development. eKitabu participated at the pre-conference with Mercy Kirui; Senior Manager, Content and Georgine Obura; Studio KSL Director having a chance to give their views on the panel discussions on Best Practices on ICT Utilization in Education and Sustainability and Teacher Capacity Development respectively 

Georgine Obura was appointed at the pre-conference to present the position statement to the President at the 3rd National Curriculum Conference. Among the recommendations made to the government were:

  1. Provide a robust, reliable and scalable infrastructure to support ICT integration in the classroom  
  2. Delivery of adequate and appropriate digital content and learning tools for all grades by 2022, which is accessible to special needs and mainstream learners to ensure equity and inclusion
  3. Development of 100% of teacher capacity by 2022 by sustainable approaches such as the promotion of teacher professional development in ICT to advance digital literacy and collaborative learning
  4. Establishment of effective monitoring and evaluation systems by 2020, effective research and development approaches that generate and disseminate data on inclusion, and that links this evidence to policy decisions 
  5. Development of Policy frameworks that promote the linkage of education and ICT, guide in implementation and encourage collaboration and partnerships with the private sector by 2020
